A PCB is used to provide conductive path for electronic devices by using etching process. Normally copper sheets are used for making PCB boards. These sheets are laminated onto a nonconductive substrate.
Industrial methods for making PCB includes following processes,
- CB Etching Process
- PCB Drilling
- PCB Testing
- PCB Assembling
But we are not going to affordable with this industrial process of PCB fabrication. In this tutorial we are making our own PCB using simple techniques.
Requirements for this process
1. Copper board.
2. Chloride powder
4. Iron Box
Method 1: Making our custom circuits
The first step to make PCB is to design our circuit. There are plenty of free softwares available to design our circuit.
Here we give you some of the softwares. You can use anyone of them.
1. Tiny CAD
2. Easy EDA
3. Cadsoft Eagle
After designed your PCB , we are going to take the printout of the circuit. Or else you can draw the circuits by your hand. But there may be some mistakes happen. So we recommend you to draw for small circuits only.
Method 2: Cutting the copper board
The next step is to cut the copper board for the required size.
After cutting the sheet, we need to rub the surface of the sheets.
Method: Coping the circuit onto the board
Next step is Pasting the Circuit on the copper sheet.As we told earlier, we can draw the circuit on the sheet Or paste the printout on the board. Now We are going to stick out circuit on the board using iron Box.
The next step is ironing the circuit on the copper board. Iron the board eventually on all the edges. It takes 2-3 minutes for complete.
After ironing, place the printed plate into the water for about 10 minutes. The paper will dissolve, then you can remove the paper.
In most times, the circuits may not be properly copied to the board or the traces are so thin. In that case, use the marker to complete the circuit.
Method: Etching process
Next step is adding ferric chloride in water. Then dip our circuit into the solution and wait for few minutes(approximately 15 minutes). The fecl3 solution reacts with the copper sheets and remove the unwanted copper from the board.
Notes: we highly recommend you to use gloves for this Etching process.
Method: PCB drilling
We are almost going to get our final PCB. Next step is drilling on the PCB board using PCB drillers. After that place your components on the boards.
Hurray.. your final PCB is ready. You can now start exploring with your circuits.
